    2018 ISAM Symposium Summary

"Updates and Controversies Related to Inhaled Aerosols"

On May 18, 2018, ISAM hosted a one-day symposium on "Updates and Controversies Related to Inhaled Aerosols" on the campus of the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla, California. The event was organized by ISAM president-elect Chantal Darquenne with the help of ISAM board members Jim Fink, Philip Kuehl and Otmar Schmid, and ISAM member Rui Carlos Sá. The event gathered an international crowd of 45 participants from both industry and academic institutions.

The program was developed to facilitate direct interactions between attendees and presenters. It included regular sessions on e-cigarette, bronchial challenge testing and personalized medicine. These sessions included talks by invited speaker(s) based on their expertise within the focus area and oral presentation(s) selected from the submitted abstracts. The program also included a pro/con debate on the use of inhaled antibiotics to treat non-CF bronchiectasis and a panel discussion on the use of digital health in aerosol therapy. The scientific program concluded with a poster session that was followed by an evening reception. Some of the symposium presentations can be found in the ISAM members-only section of the ISAM website.

Events like this heavily rely on the support of sponsors and the organizing committee is grateful for the financial contributions of Sunnovion (Gold sponsor), Aptar Pharma and 3M (Bronze sponsors), and Scireq. Last but not least, a big thank you to all the attendees for making this event a success. We are looking forward to see you all in Montreux in 2019.
