    Phillip Clapp, PhD

As a post-doctoral researcher in the Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma, and Lung Biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I apply my graduate training in toxicology and research experience in pulmonary cell physiology to investigate how toxicants affect host defense responses in the respiratory system. I am currently working with Dr. William Bennett to assess the effects of e-cigarette emissions on respiratory mucociliary clearance (MCC) in healthy adult vapers using gamma scintigraphy. Our work will provide some of the first human in vivo data for the acute effects of vaping on key respiratory defense functions.
