The International Society for Aerosols in Medicine

    Tim Corcoran, PhD

    Tim Corcoran, PhD

Tim is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Aerosol Medicine and Pulmonary Drug Delivery, serving in this role since 2013. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Bioengineering, and Chemical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Tim completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at Carnegie Mellon University in 2000, working primarily in aerosol drug delivery device design and the modelling of aerosol transport through the upper airways. He then moved to the University of Pittsburgh to join the team developing inhaled immunosuppressants for lung transplant recipients where he performed a series of deposition scintigraphy studies. He then began working to develop aerosol-based functional imaging methods to study mucus and liquid transport in the lungs. He has applied these methods in studies of patients with cystic fibrosis, asthma, muscular dystrophy, and congenital heart disease. He also has an interest in the design of aerosol drug delivery systems for pediatric patients and the use of surfactant additives to improve drug distribution after inhaled delivery. He has served as Principal Investigator on several NIH RO1/UO1 awards.
