    Dr. Andrew Martin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada, where he has received multiple awards for undergraduate teaching and graduate student supervision. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).He completed his PhD in 2008 at the Aerosol Research Laboratory of Alberta (UAlberta). From 2008-2013 he worked in industrial R&D, based first in France and then in the United States, on projects related to medical device development, inhalation drug delivery, and clinical and preclinical programs investigating new applications of therapeutic gases in medicine.

     

    Andrew’s primary research interests lie in the development and in vitro testing of inhalation drug delivery systems, as well as in the assessment and modeling of regional aerosol deposition within the respiratory tract. He has published widely on topics within the fields of inhalation drug delivery and respiratory support, regularly presents at international conferences, and is lead or co-inventor on several granted and pending patents.Andrew has served on the ISAM board since 2015, as General Secretary since 2017, and was a member of the steering committees for the 2017 and 2019 ISAM congresses.He was co-organizer of symposia on medical aerosols at the 2018 International Aerosol Conference in Saint Louis, MO, and at the 2017 AAAR Conference in Raleigh, NC.He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Aerosol Medicine and Pulmonary Drug Delivery.Andrew has worked to increase opportunities for students, recent graduates, and new ISAM members to participate and gain recognition at our congresses and symposia.He was the recipient of the 2013 ISAM Young Investigator Award.
