New Initiatives from the Board

The main focus of ISAM has been the biennial congress, next to be held in Montreux, Switzerland, May 26-29 2019. But a further aim of the board is to make the society relevant to members between the congresses. ISAM Webinar

The 3rd ISAM Webinar is scheduled for Wednesday July 11: Fate of Aerosols Depositing in the Respiratory Tract by William D. Bennett, PhD, Professor of Medicine, Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma, and Lung Biology, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. More details are available at the ISAM website.

IAC2018 Conference

ISAM will be sponsoring a Special Symposium: Aerosols in Medicine at the 10th International Aerosol Conference (IAC 2018) to be held September 2-7, 2018 at the America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The symposium will take place Monday, September 3rd and will be chaired by ISAM board members Andrew Martin, Philip Kuehl, and Otmar Schmid. They can be contacted for symposium details. ATS Related Events

ISAM was well represented at the ATS Congress recently held in San Diego, CA. A summary of the preconference ISAM symposium "Updates and Controversies Related to Inhaled Aerosols” can be found at the ISAM website by following the hyperlink.

ERS Paris

Visit us at the ISAM booth September 15-19 at the next International Congress of the European Respiratory Society. And note that with ISAM membership, ERS membership is only $20! 

New Board Member

Stephan Ehrmann, MD, PhD, joined the ISAM Board last year. He is professor of critical care medicine at the intensive care unit of Tours University Hospital and researcher at the research center for respiratory disease, national institute for health and biomedical research, INSERM UMR 1100, at Tours University, both in France. Stephan completed a PhD thesis at Paris-Est University in Paris after completing training in critical care in Tours and medical school at the University of Montpellier. He also trained abroad, in Germany at the University of Heidelberg during medical school; and in Spain at the Hospital Sant Pau intensive care unit of Barcelona during critical care training. Research activities of Pr Ehrmann focus on aerosol delivery to critically ill patients undergoing invasive and noninvasive respiratory support. He performed large scale observational studies and international surveys to document the current state of practice, performed pharmacokinetic studies of inhaled antibiotics in intubated animals and patients as well as aerosol delivery during nasal high flow therapy. Currently he is coordinating a national multicentric randomized trial on prophylactic inhaled antibiotic therapy in ventilated patients. Pr Ehrmann served as chair of the epidemiology and research commission of the French intensive care society, he currently is general secretary of the French national college of critical care teaching, he coordinates the residents inter-regional critical care curriculum for west of France. This active involvement in in clinical work, teaching and research gives Pr Ehrmann a translational view on all aspects of aerosol use in the critical care environment, he authored numerous reviews, original research articles and book chapters.
